Kolon Global Signs Agreement with Hills Engineering to Enter Non-Face-to-Face Disinfection Robot Business

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Kolon Global announced on the 31st that its modular construction subsidiary Kolon E&C and autonomous driving-based logistics robot specialist Hills Engineering have signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on developing additional businesses and new products utilizing disinfection robots in the construction sector. Disinfection robots refer collectively to autonomous driving robots that disinfect the interior and exterior of buildings, as well as the robot operation and management systems.
The two companies agreed to explore new business opportunities for disinfection robots by combining their respective business capabilities and to expand their application in the construction field. As a concrete development plan, they will actively cooperate to strengthen capabilities in the ‘Smart X business’ (Smart X business: Intelligent Robot business based on AI-driven autonomous robots as the core platform) by combining Kolon Global’s construction execution capabilities with Hills Engineering’s R&D capabilities in the robotics industry to maximize the digital transformation of the future construction industry.
Hills Engineering, a tech company specializing in AI-based autonomous industrial robot platforms, will be responsible for customizing robot technology to utilize disinfection robots in hospitals and construction fields, as well as integrating new technologies and developing new products to expand the modular construction business domain.
Kolon Global will contribute to business expansion by supporting construction technology and sales activities to enhance the application areas of disinfection robots, joint technology development, prototype procurement, and product completeness verification.

A Kolon Global official explained, "Kolon E&C will first apply disinfection robots to negative pressure wards it has constructed and plans to expand their application to model houses, construction sites, apartments, and other construction sites," adding, "Expanding the application areas of disinfection robots will enable effective and efficient responses to various infectious diseases, including COVID-19."
