"DVD is going out" Arsenal fan who made racist remarks about Son Heung-min dies
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Claude Callegari, who made racist remarks towards Son Heung-min, has died at the age of 58, BBC reported on the 30th (local time).
Callegari, a contributor to the YouTube channel 'ArsenalFanTV (AFTV)', caused controversy last July during the broadcast of the 35th round North London Derby between Tottenham and Arsenal in the 2019-2020 English Premier League season when Son Heung-min was substituted out, saying "DVD's going off."
"DVD" is used as a racist term against Asian players. It originated from the act of Asian immigrants illegally copying DVDs and selling them at street stalls. At the time, he explained that there was no racist intent and posted an apology video, but criticism continued and he was eventually expelled from the YouTube channel.
