Mother Abandons Children in Garbage-Filled Home... Father Commits Arson
[Asia Economy Reporter Jumi Lee] A mother who left her young children in a house filled with garbage and failed to properly provide meals has been booked by the police.
On the 30th, the Suseong Police Station in Daegu announced that they have booked the children's mother, Ms. A, without detention on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act (neglect) and are investigating her.
According to the police, Ms. A, who divorced her husband, is suspected of neglecting her children by leaving garbage and leftover food inside the house and frequently leaving the house while living with her daughter (9) and son (5).
The neglect was revealed recently when the daughter contacted her father, Mr. B, saying, "Mom does not take care of us. I want to live with you, Dad."
Mr. B, who had been living in another area after the divorce, visited Ms. A's house with the daughter's homeroom teacher on the 29th to take the children.
Upon seeing the house covered with various garbage including food waste, the school immediately reported Ms. A to the police.
Meanwhile, Mr. B was urgently arrested by the police on suspicion of setting fire to Ms. A's house around 7:30 p.m. on the same day.
A police official stated, "The exact cause of the fire is under investigation."
