[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 30th that the Sangpyeong General Industrial Complex regeneration project, selected as a target for the aged industrial complex regeneration project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in March 2014, has started construction after 7 years and will invest 46.6 billion KRW to carry out the regeneration project by 2025.
This year, the section of Gongdan-ro to be prioritized is a main road connecting Kim Si-min Bridge, Sangpyeong Industrial Complex, and Jinju original downtown. Among the 1,362m section from Kim Si-min Bridge to the former Samsam Gas Station, 1,140m was expanded as the west access road to the Innovation City, but the remaining 222m section was not constructed, causing congestion during commuting or roadside loading and unloading, which hindered industrial complex logistics transport.
Accordingly, the city expects that once the road expansion project is completed by the end of this year, transportation at the industrial complex entry and exit points will be smooth, movement between Innovation City areas will be greatly improved, and exchanges between the original downtown and the new downtown will expand.
The Sangpyeong Industrial Complex regeneration project is a project to renovate public infrastructure such as parking lot installation and park creation on a 2,057,000㎡ site in the Sangpyeong Industrial Complex area by 2025, targeting the aged industrial complex that has passed 30 years since its establishment, to induce private participation and create a pleasant industrial complex environment.
In addition, separately from the infrastructure expansion project, the introduction of mixed-use land to promote private investment is in the final stage of review with the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, and plans to establish and implement the plan within this year. The development project for the revitalization zone in the Sangdae-dong area, jointly promoted with LH, will have the land readjustment plan service ordered after final review by LH.

Joo Kyu-il, mayor of Jinju City, said, “With the start of infrastructure construction, the full-scale regeneration project will be promoted,” and added, “Once the mixed-use land public offering project and revitalization zone development project are implemented in sequence, the Sangpyeong General Industrial Complex will be reorganized into a high-tech industrial complex, transforming from a deteriorated area within the city to a growth hub area.”
