Sejong to Pilot 'Autonomous BRT' Carrying Citizens Starting May

View original image[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] An autonomous driving Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system carrying citizens is set to operate in Sejong.
Sejong City announced on the 30th that it will officially launch a BRT public transportation service demonstration allowing citizens to board autonomous buses, in collaboration with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
The demonstration, based on the technological safety and demonstration data accumulated since May last year through autonomous vehicle trials in residential complexes, urban parks, and general roads, will expand the demonstration section to actual public transportation routes, providing Korea’s first paid BRT transportation service.
For the demonstration, Autonomous A2Z Co., Ltd. has been granted a special license limited to passenger transport on the BRT section, and will build a high-precision road map within the demonstration section, conduct pilot operations, safety inspections, and evaluations.
Starting in May, citizens will be able to use the autonomous BRT for a fare of 500 won or less.
The city plans to establish an ‘Autonomous Driving Big Data Control Center’ at the Industry-Academia-Research Cluster Center by the first half of the year to enhance safety through demonstration vehicle control and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication linkage.
Additionally, it will support the collection and analysis of related data so that domestic autonomous driving startups and research institutions can share and utilize it.
