Muan-gun Must Call for Applications from Areas Wanting Military Airport Relocation
Regular Meeting of the Gwangju Military Airport Opposition Committee Held... Possibility of Inter-County Alliance to Oppose Relocation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County in Jeonnam announced that the Anti-Relocation Committee for the Gwangju Combat Airfield to Muan (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) held a regular meeting on the 29th at the county office situation room.
The meeting was attended by about 20 people, including standing committee members of the Committee, and proceeded with the presentation of merit plaques, introduction of new executives, and discussions on countermeasures against the relocation of the military airport.
Originally, the Committee planned a general meeting to demonstrate the resolute will of the county residents against the relocation of the Gwangju military airport, but considering the surrounding conditions due to COVID-19, it was carried out on a minimal scale.
At the meeting, Park Moon-jae, co-chairman of the standing committee, stated, “Since Gwangju City announced that the timing of the civilian airport relocation would be linked to the agreement on the military airport relocation, they are now misleading public opinion as they face the risk of being bound by their own words and actions,” and emphasized, “It is time to stop unnecessary disputes that cause conflicts between local governments and change to a public contest method to find regions that want the military airport relocation.”
