Confirmed Number of Voters for the April 7 By-Election
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Jo] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that the number of eligible voters for the 2021 by-elections and re-elections to be held on the 7th of next month is 12,161,624 as of the 26th (about 87% of the population).
Among the total number of eligible voters, the number of domestic voters is 12,085,950, overseas Koreans such as long-term business travelers are 33,428, and foreigners are 42,246.
By gender, females (6,274,535; 51.6%) outnumber males (5,887,089; 48.4%) by 387,446.
By age group, the 50s account for the highest proportion at 18.53%, followed by the 40s at 17.87%, 30s at 16.39%, 20s at 16.33%, 60s at 15.90%, 70 and above at 12.91%, and 18-19 years old at 2.07%.
Due to the amendment of the Public Official Election Act last year allowing those aged 18 to vote, the total number of voters participating in this by-election and re-election (born between April 9, 2002, and April 8, 2003) is 119,349.

The largest by-election among these is the Seoul mayoral by-election with 8,425,869 eligible voters, followed by the Busan Metropolitan City mayoral by-election with 2,936,301 eligible voters.
