He emphasized the need to promote employment recovery through the swift execution of the supplementary budget.
At the Employment and Labor Crisis Response Task Force (TF) meeting that day, Minister Lee evaluated, "Employment conditions have recently shown considerable improvement due to the easing of social distancing and the full-scale implementation of job projects supported by financial aid."
According to Statistics Korea, the number of employed people in the country last month decreased by 473,000 compared to the same month last year. The decline in employment was smaller than in January (982,000).
Minister Lee forecasted, "Considering the vaccination rollout and continued improvement in exports, the employment situation is expected to continue improving in March."
He added, "Since the spread of COVID-19 is not easily subsiding and the risk of infection control remains, it is an important time to maintain vigilance and focus all capabilities to turn the employment recovery trend into a definite rebound opportunity."
At the TF meeting, plans to accelerate employment recovery by promptly executing the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s supplementary budget of 2.1 trillion won were discussed. The supplementary budget also includes funds for the 4th emergency employment stabilization support for special employment workers (teukso) and freelancers.
