Incheon Airport Corporation "Sky72 Workers' Employment Stability is Top Priority, Successor Operator Commitment"
The Sky72 Golf Club Workers' Council held a rally on the 25th raising concerns about job insecurity, and Incheon International Airport Corporation announced that it has obtained a commitment for employment stability from the successor operator.
Incheon Airport Corporation released a statement titled "Airport Corporation's Position on the Sky72 Workers' Council Rally" in the afternoon, saying, "During the preparation of a new contract following the termination of the contract with Sky72 Co., Ltd., the employment stability of golf course workers was prioritized above all else."
Incheon Airport Corporation stated, "If Sky72 Co., Ltd. smoothly hands over the facilities to the successor operator as stipulated in the implementation agreement, the current employment insecurity experienced by workers would not have occurred," adding, "Despite the fact that fulfilling the smooth transfer obligation according to the contract is the shortcut to employment stability, the situation has been exacerbated by ignoring the fact that the successor operator has made employment commitments, thereby amplifying anxiety and confusion."
It continued, "The rights claimed by Sky72 Co., Ltd. as grounds for unauthorized occupation?such as the right to contract renewal, the right to purchase land improvements, and the right to reimbursement for beneficial expenses?cannot be confirmed in the contract between the parties and have not been recognized by the courts of the Republic of Korea. Considering these circumstances, immediate contract compliance by Sky72 Co., Ltd. is the best solution to resolve this situation."
Incheon Airport Corporation also stated, "As a state-owned enterprise entrusted by the public with the responsibility and duty to efficiently construct, manage, and operate Incheon Airport, a national asset, we cannot tolerate the act of maximizing private gain by unauthorized occupation of public property for the sole benefit of a business operator who has constructed and operated the golf course approved as an airport support facility, while disregarding the contractual relationship that must be strictly observed."
Furthermore, it added, "We have repeatedly notified the management of Sky72 Co., Ltd. to suspend golf course operations before April 1, when the initially granted land use period expires and three months have passed, and to promptly fulfill the contract," and expressed hope that "the management of Sky72 Co., Ltd. will make responsible and prudent decisions as employers to prevent harm to golf course employees."
