Goheung-gun Selected for This Year’s ‘Haedream’ Contest Project Utilizing Idle Fishing Village Facilities

Establishing Income Increase for Fishermen and Living Infrastructure for Returnees to Fishing
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Goheung-gun, Jeonnam (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced on the 25th that Geumsan-myeon Ikgeum Village and Seochon Village were finally selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ ‘Haedream’ contest project utilizing idle fishing village facilities, securing a project budget of 600 million KRW.
This project supports the use of idle communal facilities in fishing villages for fishing village specialized projects, aiming to create jobs and increase regional vitality.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries selected and announced three sites nationwide for this year’s fishing village idle facility utilization Haedream project, with Goheung-gun receiving support for two sites (Geumsan Ikgeum and Seochon Village).
As a result, the village communal workshop in Geumsan-myeon Ikgeum Village will be newly renovated into an exhibition and sales center for agricultural and marine specialties and a caf? operated directly by the residents as a community, expected to contribute to increasing residents’ income.
Additionally, Seochon Village in Geumsan is remodeling the closed elementary school facility into a living experience center for returnees to fishing villages, providing an opportunity for early settlement and contributing to policies for attracting younger generations.

A county official stated, “Through this project, we aim to revitalize residents exhausted by COVID-19 and create jobs to increase income, establishing a successful model for regional economic revitalization. We will also do our best to attract contest projects to discover and select target sites in the future.”
