Tree Planting on Yongmasan and Manguisan in Jungnang-gu
By the End of March, a 2ha Afforestation Project to Reduce Fine Dust Will Be Carried Out in the Yongmasan and Mangusan Areas... 760 Trees of 7 Species Including Strobus Pine and Ipop Tree with High Fine Dust Reduction Effects to Be Planted
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is promoting a fine dust reduction afforestation project in the Yongmasan and Mangu-san areas to provide clean air to its residents.
The "Fine Dust Reduction Afforestation Project" involves planting trees with high fine dust blocking and adsorption capabilities on mountains to create forests that improve air quality.
According to a 2017 study published by the National Institute of Forest Science, urban forests can reduce fine dust in city centers by 25.6% and ultrafine dust by 40.9%.
The district plans to plant 760 trees of 7 species, including Strobus pine and Ipop tree, which have strong fine dust reduction effects, over approximately 2 hectares in the Yongmasan and Mangu-san areas by the end of March.
Through this project, the district aims to achieve two goals: removing pollutants from the air and preventing various forest disasters such as landslides.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, "Through this afforestation project, we will alleviate residents' anxiety caused by fine dust in spring and create beautiful forest landscapes. We will strengthen emission source management and expand eco-friendly projects to reduce fine dust that threatens residents' health."
The district is thoroughly inspecting various sources of fine dust to protect residents' health. At 88 locations, including 47 school hygiene and sanitation zones, compliance with vehicle idling restrictions is monitored, and the use of old construction machinery is restricted at construction sites.

Additionally, the sections of Dongil-ro and Mangu-ro with heavy traffic are designated as fine dust priority management roads, where water cleaning is conducted twice daily during high fine dust concentration periods. Support is also provided for installing eco-friendly boilers and solar mini power plants in homes.
