Thanks to the swift joint investigation by the Daegu and Busan police, a wanted fugitive suspected of murder was quickly captured just over an hour after the cooperation request.
According to the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, at around 11:23 a.m. on the 23rd, an urgent cooperation request from the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency was received, reporting that “a murder suspect is using a public phone in Nampo-dong.”
The request was to apprehend Mr. A (male), who committed murder in Daegu on the 20th and has been on the run, hiding while traveling nationwide.
Upon receiving the urgent request, the Nampo Police Substation of the Busan Jungbu Police Station dispatched all patrol cars. An emergency search of the Nampo-dong area began.
However, the suspect was not found in the busy downtown area where many people were passing by.
The 112 Comprehensive Situation Room responded with full force, transmitting photos and other information about the suspect in real time.
Officer Han from the Nampo Police Substation, while searching near the Gukje Market with other colleagues, momentarily spotted a person whose appearance closely matched the suspect’s. It was a police officer’s intuition.
Officer Han immediately pursued that person and delivered a decisive “strike.”
“OOO!” When he called the suspect’s name, there was a startled reaction. It was him. Upon hearing his name, the suspect gradually increased his walking speed and then ran at full speed.
Officer Han chased the suspect while requesting backup via radio from other colleagues.
At around 12:44 p.m., in front of the men’s restroom at the Nampo-dong International Underground Shopping Center, Officer Han and the Nampo Police Substation officers stopped the escape. They found an electricity bill among the suspect’s belongings, who had been stubbornly refusing to identify himself. It was the moment they put handcuffs on him.
