Construction Technicians' Day Ceremony... 42 Government Awards Including Chairman Obongseok
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will hold the '2021 Construction Technicians Day' ceremony at 3 p.m. on the 24th at the Imperial Palace Hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in cooperation with the Korea Association of Construction Technicians.
Construction Technicians Day is a commemorative event started in 2001 to promote the pride and self-esteem of construction technicians and boost morale. The ceremony is held annually, and this year marks the 21st anniversary.
This year's ceremony was held with strict adherence to social distancing and thorough quarantine guidelines due to COVID-19, with only a minimum of 50 attendees including Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Byeon Chang-heum, and government award recipients.
The highest honor among government awards, the Gold Tower Industrial Medal, was awarded to Oh Bong-seok, chairman of Dongil Architects & Associates, for his contributions in architectural design and supervision CM fields. The Silver Tower Industrial Medal was awarded to Park Gye-byeong, chairman of the Korea Consultant Association.
The Industrial Medal was awarded to Lee Han-yong, chairman of ITM Corporation Architects Office, and Kim Cheon-hak, vice chairman of Hongik Engineering Group. Four individuals, including Choi Myung-gi, director of Construction QM Testing Institute Co., Ltd., received the Presidential Citation. Thirty-four people, including Ha Han-gi, vice president of Shinhan Architects Office, received the Prime Minister's Citation and the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Citation.

Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun expressed in his congratulatory speech, "Despite the COVID-19 crisis, I thank the construction technicians who quietly fulfilled their responsibilities at construction sites, enabling overseas construction orders to reach $35.1 billion, the highest in five years." He added, "We will strive to innovate the construction business structure to be 'technology-centered and people-centered,' create a fair construction ecosystem free from illegality, poor quality, and corruption, and foster excellent talent."
