[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) is fully restricting access to Seokchon Lake during the cherry blossom blooming period and holding an online festival instead, while preparing small-scale programs to enjoy cherry blossoms along the Songpa Dullegil trail.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the district will close Seokchon Lake during the cherry blossom blooming period this year as well, following last year’s measures.
From April 1 to 11, access will be restricted from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. the next day for 11 days. However, some entrances will be opened from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. to accommodate residents’ morning commutes and walks.
Instead, starting April 2, an 'Online Cherry Blossom Broadcast' will be conducted via YouTube channel ‘SongpaTV’ to allow viewers to enjoy the vibrant cherry blossoms at Seokchon Lake and Songpa Dullegil.
First, through ‘Songpa’s Online Cherry Blossom Walk,’ drones will be used to vividly capture the full bloom of cherry blossoms in Songpa.
Especially this year, eight scenic cherry blossom spots along Songpa Dullegil have been selected, and together with the Seokchon Lake cherry blossom path, the breathtaking cherry blossom views of Songpa Dullegil will be dynamically showcased.
‘Radio with Cherry Blossoms in View’ is a program where residents, including live performers, children reporters, and multicultural families, participate directly to introduce various scenes of Seokchon Lake in full bloom.
This program will run from April 2 to 11, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Also, through ‘Cherry Blossom Online Travel,’ YouTubers will introduce hidden cherry blossom spots and attractions along Songpa Dullegil, allowing viewers to feel as if they are walking the cherry blossom paths and enjoying the blossoms firsthand.
Additionally, within the scope of adhering to quarantine guidelines, a 'Songpa Dullegil Spring Exhibition' program has been prepared. Through the Songpa Dullegil ‘Cherry Blossom Exhibition,’ visitors can enjoy a new spring flower path. Various works by artists’ associations, photographers’ associations, calligraphy associations, and writers’ associations active in Songpa will be exhibited throughout Songpa Dullegil.
Furthermore, at the Ogeum-dong Water Playground on Songpa Dullegil, participatory exhibition programs such as ‘Cherry Blossom Wish Tree’ and ‘Citizen Participation Public Art Project’ will be held. These provide residents with opportunities to create and exhibit their own artworks as part of cultural and artistic activities. Safety personnel will be stationed throughout the exhibition areas to ensure quarantine measures.

Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “This year, instead of the Seokchon Lake cherry blossom walking path, we have prepared small-scale online and offline programs along Songpa Dullegil to safely enjoy the cherry blossoms while complying with quarantine guidelines. I hope many residents will feel the warmth of spring and gain a sense of hope while viewing Songpa’s cherry blossoms.”
