Chungnam, Joint Inspection with Ministry of Agriculture to Strengthen ASF Quarantine Measures
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province announced on the 23rd that it will strengthen African Swine Fever (ASF) prevention measures in line with the wild boar birthing season from April to May.
First, the province will jointly inspect the biosecurity status of farms in the area with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs by the end of next month.
In addition, to reduce the habitat density of wild boars, the main transmission vector, the province plans to conduct intensive capture efforts and strengthen monitoring and testing of carcasses.
Starting in October, the province will fully enforce restrictions on livestock vehicle entry and encourage the installation of eight biosecurity facilities in cooperation with the Korean Pork Producers Association.
A provincial official stated, “We will focus on blocking measures to maintain zero ASF occurrences,” and urged farms to strictly adhere to basic biosecurity rules such as installing enhanced biosecurity facilities, controlling the entry of external vehicles and people, and practicing daily disinfection.
Meanwhile, since January 22, the province has banned the movement of pigs into and out of Chungnam from 43 cities and counties including Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces.
