Gwangju City Conducts Safety Inspection on Steep Slope Management with Private Experts
Disaster Risk Assessment Results for 74 Sites Rated C and D
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 23rd that it will conduct a safety inspection on the management status of steep slopes that suffered significant damage such as slope erosion, soil leakage, and collapse due to last year's heavy rain.
To ensure objectivity and expertise, private safety experts will also participate in this safety inspection, checking safety inspections by managing institutions, disaster risk assessments, designation and management of collapse risk areas, and the operation status of the steep slope information system for 161 steep slopes under management, including cut slopes, retaining walls, and stone walls.
In particular, 74 sites evaluated as grade C or D in the disaster risk assessment, which require continuous safety inspections and maintenance plans, will be the focus of the inspection.
Based on relevant laws and standards, last year's damage status, and other basic data collection and analysis, on-site inspections will verify ▲ compliance with safety inspection standards and adherence to inspection cycles ▲ appropriateness of disaster risk assessment criteria and evaluations ▲ appropriateness of designation and management of collapse risk areas ▲ appropriateness of establishing maintenance projects such as repairs and reinforcements, and will encourage managing institutions to strengthen their management.
Yoon Geon-yeol, head of the Social Disaster Division of the city, said, "Damage on steep slopes is increasing due to heavy rains, etc. Through this inspection, we will focus on eliminating disaster risk factors in advance and raising the safety awareness of managing institutions."
