Xiaomi Challenges Korean Smartphone Market Again
Xiaomi Unveils 'Redmi Note 10' Series
Affordable Models Priced Between 200,000 and 300,000 KRW, Pre-Orders Until March 30
'Redmi Note 10' Launches March 30, 'Redmi Note 10 Pro' on April 9
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Xiaomi has thrown down the gauntlet once again in the domestic market by introducing the budget smartphone series 'Redmi Note 10 (Hongmi Note 10)' priced between 200,000 and 300,000 KRW. This is interpreted as a strategy to actively target the space left by LG Electronics, a long-standing player in the domestic market, which has exited the business.
On the 23rd, Xiaomi held an online press conference to announce the domestic launch plans for the 'Redmi Note 10' series. The domestic launch of the Redmi Note 10 series came just two weeks after its unveiling in China on the 8th, and the products officially launched on this day are two models: the 'Redmi Note 10' and the 'Redmi Note 10 Pro.'
The higher-end model, Redmi Note 10 Pro, significantly enhanced its camera capabilities by equipping a quad (4) camera setup including a 108-megapixel rear camera. It also improved the display with a 6.67-inch AMOLED Dot display supporting a 120Hz refresh rate (frames shown per second). The application processor (AP) uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 732G, and it offers a large 5020mAh battery with 33W fast charging.
The Redmi Note 10 also features a quad camera setup including a 48-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera for group shots, a 2-megapixel macro camera for close-ups, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor for portrait shots. It is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 AP, a 6.43-inch AMOLED Dot display, and a 5000mAh battery. Both models apply an arc side-button fingerprint sensor.
Steven Wang, Xiaomi's General Manager for East Asia, explained, "The Redmi Note 10 series is the first in the Redmi Note lineup to feature an AMOLED display," adding, "It offers the best cost-effectiveness to provide customers with a satisfying experience."
Xiaomi's swift introduction of the Redmi Note 10 to the domestic market appears to reflect a strategy to target the gap left by LG Electronics, which has effectively confirmed its exit from the smartphone business. Although Xiaomi has consistently attempted to penetrate the domestic smartphone market by emphasizing cost-effectiveness, it has not seen significant success due to the high market share held by domestic companies.
The newly revealed products will be available for pre-order from today until the 30th, with the Redmi Note 10 scheduled for release on the 30th of this month and the Redmi Note 10 Pro on the 9th of next month. The launch prices are 218,900 KRW for the Redmi Note 10 and 319,000 KRW for the Redmi Note 10 Pro.
