LG "LX Holdings, LX and Design Are Different... Dialogue Must Continue"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation (LX) announced it would take legal action, including filing a provisional injunction, over the name of LG's newly established holding company following the spin-off. In response, LG expressed that since the designs differ, the possibility of confusion is low, and stated, "Instead of unnecessary disputes, both companies should continue dialogue to explore cooperation measures."
On the 23rd, LG commented on LX's announcement of legal action the previous day, saying, "We regret this decision, especially as our company and Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation began discussions on minimizing confusion regarding the company name and exploring win-win cooperation measures on the 16th."
Earlier, LX revealed that its Board of Directors' Operating Committee held a meeting on the 19th, strongly opposing LG's newly established holding company deciding on the name 'LX' without prior consultation and proceeding with trademark registration. LX directors expressed concerns that "the newly established holding company under Koo Bon-joon using the same name unfairly rides on the reputation and distinctiveness LX has built over time, potentially undermining the credibility and authority of a public institution and causing public confusion," LX stated.
In response, LG emphasized, "The trademarks of both companies are clearly distinguishable in logo, design, and color, making confusion unlikely, and the business areas they operate in are entirely different, so we believe the corporation's claims lack practicality." Although the English spellings are the same, the differing designs mean there is no issue. LG added, "Instead of unnecessary disputes, mutual efforts to continue dialogue are necessary so that both companies can explore cooperation measures."

LX and LG have recently been in conflict over the name 'LX Holdings' chosen for the newly established holding company by LG Advisor Koo Bon-joon. The conflict began when LG announced the name of the new holding company as part of the agenda for the shareholders' meeting on the 11th, which included approval of the holding company spin-off plan. The two sides met on the 16th but did not reach a conclusion, and the dispute continues. LG plans to approve the holding company spin-off plan, including the name LX Holdings, at the regular shareholders' meeting scheduled for the 26th of this month.
