Chonnam National University Hospital Respiratory Medicine Staff Awarded on 'Tuberculosis Prevention Day'

According to Chonnam National University Hospital on the 23rd, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency recently awarded Professor Kwon Yong-soo of Chonnam National University Hospital the Presidential Citation and Professor Lim Seong-cheol the Minister of Health and Welfare Award for their dedicated contributions to achieving major outcomes in the national tuberculosis control project on the occasion of the 11th Tuberculosis Prevention Day.
The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on the 24th at Hotel H in Sejong City.
In this award, Professor Kwon Yong-soo received the Presidential Citation for his contributions to the treatment and management of tuberculosis patients in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions as the person in charge of the tuberculosis public-private partnership project at Chonnam National University Hospital and the responsible physician for the Jeolla region in the multidrug-resistant tuberculosis consortium project.
In particular, Professor Kwon significantly contributed to reducing the domestic tuberculosis incidence rate by participating in the tuberculosis public-private partnership project and greatly reducing cases such as patients who discontinued tuberculosis medication, patients who did not visit hospitals, and treatment failures.
Additionally, as the responsible physician for the Jeolla region in the multidrug-resistant tuberculosis consortium project, he improved treatment outcomes for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis patients in the region and was recognized for his efforts in educating medical personnel on recent tuberculosis diagnostic methods and treatment drugs.
Professor Lim Seong-cheol received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award for his contributions as the responsible physician for the Gwangju area in the public-private cooperative tuberculosis management project, contributing to early detection of tuberculosis patients, prevention of spread, and improvement of tuberculosis patient survival rates.
Professor Lim made multifaceted efforts to improve medication adherence, which is most important in tuberculosis treatment, and faithfully conducted education and counseling for patients and their families.

He was also recognized for his contributions to improving the quality of respiratory patient management by participating in a national project to build data on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients, organized by the Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases.
