Disciplinary Resignation LH Employee Reemployed at Ministry of Land-Affiliated Public Corporation... Anti-Corruption Commission Conducts Special Inspection
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Amid controversy over cases where individuals who were disciplined at Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) concealed this fact and were re-employed at the Saemangeum Development Corporation under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) is launching an inspection of similar cases.
The ACRC announced on the 22nd that it will conduct a special inspection of the hiring practices of 25 institutions under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
To this end, the ACRC's Public Institution Recruitment Corruption Eradication Task Force will review the employment history of employees at public institutions under the Ministry who have previously worked at LH.
If any issues are found during the special inspection, the ACRC will request investigative actions and disciplinary measures from supervisory agencies, and if necessary, plans to expand the inspection to all public institutions.
The ACRC also plans to use this special inspection as an opportunity to address loopholes in the system that restrict employment of officials dismissed for misconduct.
According to the Act on the Prevention of Corruption and the Establishment and Management of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, public officials who have been automatically retired, dismissed, or removed due to corruption-related acts during their tenure and who have been sentenced to a fine of 3 million won or more for corruption-related offenses are prohibited from employment at public institutions, corruption-related organizations, or related businesses for five years.
