The foundation explained that the name change was made in accordance with the "Act on the Protection of Financial Consumers," which is scheduled to take effect on the 25th. Since its establishment in 2006, the foundation has carried out various projects such as research, evaluation, and financial education to enhance the rights and interests of financial investors. The foundation stated, "We will take the lead in protecting financial consumers in various fields, including depositors and insurance policyholders, as well as financial investors, and in the development of the financial market."

Regarding the name change of the foundation, voices of welcome have been raised from the financial industry and related academic societies. Kim Kwang-soo, Chairman of the Korea Federation of Banks, said, "We look forward to the foundation's active role in enhancing the rights and interests of financial consumers and boosting trust in the financial market," while Jung Ji-won, Chairman of the General Insurance Association, expressed expectations for "financial consumer protection activities tailored to the consumer's perspective" following the foundation's name change.
