Tous Les Jours Franchisees "Welcome Withdrawal of Sale... Need to Ease Store Opening Restrictions"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] The Tous Les Jours Franchisee Association has welcomed CJ Group's decision to withdraw the sale of Tous Les Jours and stated that restrictions on new store openings should be eased to enhance growth momentum.
On the 22nd, the Tous Les Jours Franchisee Association said, "The fundamental cause of the sale issue was primarily the growth limitations caused by nearly a decade of restrictions on new store openings," and urged related agencies to improve the unfair and inequitable system that has pushed franchisees into an unstable survival environment.
The association explained, "Due to the current restrictions on new store openings, the number of stores has been continuously decreasing. Meanwhile, convenience stores, coffee shops, and large supermarkets have been expanding sales of bakery category products such as bread and cakes, but since these are not subject to the new store opening restrictions, they have been increasing their store numbers to achieve economies of scale."
It added, "In the case of Tous Les Jours, the number of stores has been steadily declining since the new store opening restrictions were imposed," and pointed out, "Funding for store support is secured through expanding the number of franchise stores, but with a 2% restriction on new store openings compared to the number of stores at the end of the previous year, the growth limit has reached its peak, which ultimately became the fundamental cause of the sale."
The association emphasized, "Bold investment by CJ Group must precede to restore trust with franchisees and promote the growth of the Tous Les Jours brand," and stressed, "This system should be reconsidered as much damage has been caused by the new store opening restrictions."
