Seocho-gu 'Youth Gallery Cafe' Seeks Participating Artists and Cafes
Exhibition of Works by 50 Young Artists at 20 Seocho-gu Cafes, Participation Open Until March 31... Opportunities for Young Artists, Everyday Cultural Spaces for Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) is recruiting artists and cafes to participate in the ‘Youth Gallery Cafe Support Project,’ which provides opportunities for young artists to be active and offers residents a cultural space in their daily lives, until March 31.
The ‘Youth Gallery Cafe Support Project’ connects cafes and young artists, allowing young artists to exhibit their works in cafes.
Now in its third year, this project has received great acclaim by providing young artists with opportunities to exhibit their works, enhancing the atmosphere of cafes, and allowing residents visiting the cafes to appreciate the artworks.
This time, Seocho-gu is recruiting 50 young artists aged 19 to 34 and 20 cafes to participate in the Youth Gallery Cafe during March, with plans to exhibit the young artists’ works in cafes from May to October.
The works of young artists will first undergo a blind review by experts, and in the second review, the opinions of cafe owners will be reflected, considering the harmony between the cafe atmosphere and the exhibited works to arrange the artworks.
The exhibited works can be sold, and since all proceeds go to the artists, it is expected to help improve the economic conditions of young artists.
Artist Kim 00, who participated in the Youth Gallery Cafe, said, “It was very difficult to be active due to COVID-19, but I was happy to have the opportunity to exhibit my works and to let many people know about my art by participating in the Youth Gallery Cafe. I hope Seocho-gu continues to discover many stages where various young people can pursue their dreams and passions.”
Also, No 00, who runs a cafe in Bangbae-dong, said, “With paintings exhibited, residents visiting the cafe could enjoy not only drinking but also viewing, which greatly increased their satisfaction.”
Those who wish to participate in the ‘Youth Gallery Cafe’ project can download the application form from the notice section on the Seocho-gu Office website and submit it via email (ioiiooio@seocho.go.kr) by March 31.
