Oh Se-hoon, feelings on unification talks... "A foolish decision but relieved"
"Endure with the resolve to follow the people's supreme mandate to establish a bridgehead for regime change"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate for Seoul mayor, expressed on the 21st that although the negotiation for unifying opposition candidates was a "foolish decision," he felt "relieved."
On the same day, through social media (SNS), Candidate Oh said, "The unification process was another time of agony and lonely pain for me," adding, "I endured it with the sole determination to follow the people's supreme command to create a bridgehead for regime change through unification."
He stated, "I felt relieved as I looked only to the people and the citizens of Seoul and let go of everything," and continued, "I wanted to leave a good precedent in the unification process, but it was not easy to convey my true intentions. Although I tried to uphold principles out of concern that a wrong precedent might be left in the future, there was no principle more important than the promise to the people."
Candidate Oh explained, "I thought, 'The incompetence of the regime is a disease more frightening than COVID-19. The harm caused by an incompetent regime leads to the misfortune and suffering of our people. We must focus solely on the supreme value of 'regime judgment' and the supreme task of 'unification,'" adding, "That is why I made another foolish decision." This appears to introduce a series of political choices related to unification.
Regarding the results of the unification negotiations, he said, "There was opposition saying that there would be little justification and no practical benefit," and added, "The actual negotiation results turned out that way."
