Korea Elected Chair of Climate Change Expert Group... "Role in Facilitating Climate Change Issue Negotiations"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 21st that Yoon Hyun-soo, Director of the Climate Change Diplomacy Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was elected as the chairperson of the OECD Climate Change Experts Group (CCXG) at the meeting held on the 18th, receiving support from all CCXG member countries.
The term of the chairperson of the Climate Change Experts Group is three years. The chairperson presides over CCXG meetings and related forums, provides advice to the secretariat on the CCXG work plan, and supports external promotional activities organized by the CCXG.
The CCXG was established in 1993 and consists of OECD member countries and Annex I countries under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Currently, a total of 48 countries participate, discussing analysis and negotiation progress on issues related to the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement. Recently, discussions have also expanded to include implementation measures of the Paris Agreement.
In particular, the CCXG holds a 'Global Forum' twice a year by inviting key experts from developing countries, sharing opinions and experiences on common agenda items to contribute to the development of each country's climate change policies.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "Director Yoon, in his capacity as chairperson, will enhance the effectiveness of climate response actions, including carbon neutrality, among CCXG participating countries and experts," adding, "He plans to actively fulfill his role as a facilitator of communication and mutual understanding while focusing on increasing analytical understanding of climate change negotiation issues such as the international carbon market, transparency, and reporting."
