Seoul Medical Science Institute Recognized as Internationally Accredited Medical Testing Organization
KATS Supports Domestic Medical Testing Institutions' Global Challenges
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Haeyoung Kwon] The National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will recognize the Seoul Medical Science Institute Foundation as a KOLAS (Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme) internationally accredited medical testing institution and will present the accreditation certificate on the 22nd.
The Seoul Medical Science Institute is a specialized organization providing full-cycle testing services ranging from diagnostic tests and safety and efficacy analysis of new drugs to various analyses of clinical specimens. With this KOLAS accreditation, it has become the 12th internationally accredited medical testing institution in Korea. Going forward, the Seoul Medical Science Institute will be recognized internationally for its testing capabilities in clinical chemistry and histopathology, and the test results it performs will also be valid in 104 countries worldwide.
The National Institute of Technology and Standards evaluates the capabilities, service quality, and reliability of domestic medical testing institutions according to international standards and grants international accreditation to institutions that meet essential requirements.
The Seoul Medical Science Institute stated, "With the COVID-19 pandemic highlighting Korea's infectious disease diagnostic capabilities, requests for specimen submissions and joint research have increased," adding, "We will leverage this international accreditation as a medical testing institution to grow into a global medical professional organization."

Lee Sang-hoon, head of the National Institute of Technology and Standards, said, "We will support our excellent testing institutions to be recognized worldwide and expand into global markets by utilizing the platform of KOLAS's international mutual recognition agreements," and added, "We will also expand the scope of international mutual recognition agreements to include diagnostic services in the medical field, new drug development, and biobanking."
