The Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency announced on the 17th that they are investigating dump truck driver A on charges including violation of the Construction Machinery Management Act and failure to take measures to prevent cargo from falling.
A is suspected of driving on the road with a large rock loaded in the dump truck's cargo bed without any safety devices.
The incident came to light after a post titled "I saw a potential murderer on the way to work" was uploaded on an online community.
The author of the post stated that around 9:30 a.m. on the 4th, while driving on the road from Sampe Intersection in Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province, heading toward Paldang, they spotted a truck fully loaded with a huge rock.
He explained the situation at the time, saying, "I saw a truck that was too reckless on the way to work. From afar, I thought there might be some safety measures in place, but when I saw the truck right in front of me and other cars were avoiding it, I almost cursed."
Photos posted along with the text show the dump truck driving on the road without any separate devices such as straps or covers to secure the piled-up rocks in the cargo bed.
Regarding this, the author strongly criticized, saying, "They didn't even put the rocks inside but precariously stacked them all the way to the edge," and added, "This is not just safety negligence; isn't this a potential murderer?"
Netizens reacted with disbelief, saying, "I couldn't believe my eyes," "I can't believe this isn't photoshopped," "Is this really something that happened in our country?" and "They should have reported it to 112 on the spot."
As the controversy grew, a netizen claiming to be from the Northern Gyeonggi Police Agency's Traffic Crime Investigation Team commented, "After reviewing the illegality of the vehicle, it seems necessary to investigate. If you have any information that can identify the vehicle's license plate, please report it."
