[Asia Economy Reporters Kim Heung-soon and Woo Soo-yeon] Kim Hyun-seok, President of Samsung Electronics' Consumer Electronics (CE) Division, emphasized last year's achievement of ranking first in the global market share for TVs and refrigerators, and pledged to continuously innovate premium products that satisfy customer experiences this year as well.
At the Samsung Electronics Annual General Meeting held on the 17th at the Suwon Convention Center, President Kim stated in his business status briefing, "In the TV business, we will provide the best viewing experience with Neo QLED, which dramatically improves the performance of the existing QLED, and in the home appliances business, we plan to continuously expand the experience of the customized appliance 'Bespoke,' which has changed the paradigm of interior culture through 'Bespoke Home.'"
He also promised to continue advancing screen-based innovation by strengthening the TV Plus service through 160 million Samsung TVs worldwide and newly offering fitness programs. This year, they plan to continuously launch innovative B2B (business-to-business) products and actively lead the home Internet of Things (IoT) market.
Samsung Electronics' CE division recorded business results last year with sales of 48.2 trillion KRW and operating profit of 3.6 trillion KRW, both increasing compared to the previous year. In particular, TVs continuously increased market dominance, achieving a record-high market share of 32%, securing the global number one position for 15 consecutive years. In home appliances, refrigerators achieved global number one for nine consecutive years, based on Bespoke and the New Chef Collection.
President Kim said, "We will create new services based on the pride of maintaining the number one position in the global market for a long time." Regarding home appliances, he added, "I believe there is great growth potential if we create innovative and customer-friendly products," and "We will achieve continuous growth through technological innovation and a customer-oriented mindset."
Samsung Electronics plans to focus not only on technological evolution but also on new values that preserve the environment. A representative example is the introduction of eco-packaging, which allows making desired shapes from product packaging boxes, applied to all TV products, vacuum cleaners, and air purifiers to minimize waste output. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, solar cells that can be charged with indoor lighting alone have been introduced in remote controls. Expanding the Bespoke concept, which can upgrade design and functionality, is also a strategy to extend product life cycles and minimize discarded resources.
