Gyeongnam Province to Promote 'Service Robot Common Platform Project' for 5 Years
Early Commercialization Expected Through Demonstration Operation at Gyeongnam Robot Land Theme Park
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do is actively promoting the service robot industry amid the recent increase in demand for robot utilization due to the expansion of the non-face-to-face economy.
The global robot market was valued at 30.6 billion USD in 2019, growing at an average annual rate of 13% over the past six years.
The domestic robot industry has also shown an average annual growth rate of 11.2% over the past five years.
Among the domestic robot industry, service robots account for 11%, which is in the early stages of market formation compared to manufacturing robots (59%), but demand for logistics, medical, and home-use robots is rapidly increasing.
Gyeongnam plans to foster the growth of the service robot industry that will lead the non-face-to-face economy in the future by leveraging its abundant related industry demand and the concentration of robot industry demand sources such as national industrial complexes.
The province will invest a total budget of 17.6 billion KRW by 2025 through the Gyeongnam Robot Land Foundation as the dedicated institution for the service robot industry to support the spread of robot culture, enhancement of robot content, commercialization support for service robots, strengthening R&D capabilities, and talent development.
Last year, the Gyeongnam Robot Land Foundation prepared a "Service Robot Commercialization Support Plan" focusing on supporting the development of a demand-customized common platform for service robots targeting local robot companies.
This project is a new initiative starting this year through 2025 called the "Service Robot Common Platform Commercialization Project," which supports the development and commercialization of a common platform for service robots to establish a foundation for service robot commercialization.
Yearly focus areas include supporting the development of mobility platforms, autonomous driving and charging systems, HRI (Human-Robot Interaction), robot arms for service robots, and integrated control systems for service robots.
This year, through support for "Mobility Platform Development," research and development will be conducted on mobility platforms capable of moving in various indoor and outdoor environments.
Next year, support for "Autonomous Driving and Charging System Development" will aim for commercialization through demonstration operations at the Gyeongnam Robot Land theme park.
Local companies wishing to participate in the "Service Robot Common Platform Commercialization Project" can refer to the announcement on the Gyeongnam Robot Land Foundation website and apply by the 25th.
