[Global Focus ②] The Next Goal is Trillion-Won 'Infrastructure Bill'... Debate Inevitable
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] U.S. President Joe Biden, who passed a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus bill, is now expected to focus on legislation for expanding social infrastructure. The scale of the infrastructure bill is expected to reach trillions of won, which is likely to spark intense debate.
According to Bloomberg and other sources, President Biden recently held successive meetings at the White House with lawmakers from both parties and government officials to gather opinions on the infrastructure bill. President Biden is promoting the infrastructure expansion bill as part of broader measures for economic stimulus.
Peter DeFazio, Chairman of the House Transportation Committee, said the infrastructure bill could pass the House subcommittee in May. He stated, "President Biden's infrastructure bill will be an important part of the economic recovery package," and added, "He hopes the scale will be very large." In this regard, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently rated U.S. infrastructure as ‘C-’ and diagnosed that $2.8 trillion needs to be invested over the next 10 years for road and railway repairs.
