[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] On the 16th, the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases was 363, continuing the 300-range for two consecutive days. An additional 11,922 people received COVID-19 vaccinations, surpassing a cumulative total of 600,000 in 18 days.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on the day, the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases increased by 363, bringing the cumulative total to 96,380. By infection route, 345 cases were locally transmitted and 18 were imported.
By region, the Seoul metropolitan area including Seoul and Gyeonggi still accounted for a high proportion, while more than 60 cases were reported in Gyeongnam. There were 75 cases in Seoul, 146 in Gyeonggi, and 14 in Incheon, totaling 235 cases in the metropolitan area. In non-metropolitan areas, 64 new cases were confirmed in Gyeongnam, followed by 12 in Gangwon, 6 each in Busan and Jeonbuk, 4 each in Chungnam and Gyeongbuk, 3 each in Daegu, Ulsan, and Chungbuk, 2 in Jeju, and 1 each in Gwangju, Daejeon, and Jeonnam. No new cases were reported in Sejong.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 3 from the previous day to 1,678. The number of critically ill patients increased by 4 to 103. The number of patients who were declared recovered and released from isolation increased by 501 to 88,255.
On the day, the number of diagnostic tests for suspected cases was 41,137. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 31,737 tests were conducted, confirming 45 positive cases.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team reported that as of midnight on the day, 11,922 people newly received COVID-19 vaccinations, bringing the total number of first-dose vaccinations to 602,150. Among them, 575,289 received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 26,861 received the Pfizer vaccine.

The number of reported suspected adverse reactions after COVID-19 vaccination increased by 404 from the previous day, totaling 8,751 cases. Among these, 8,650 cases involved symptoms such as muscle pain, headache, fever, chills, and nausea. One additional suspected anaphylaxis case was reported, bringing the total to 77. There were 8 suspected severe cases such as convulsions, and 16 death reports are under investigation.
