"Why Drag It Out When Everything Is Ready?" Busan 'Urban Convergence Special Zone' Should Start Construction Immediately
Ok Yu-seok, Mayor of Gijang County, Urges Focus on Policy and Economic Logic, Not 'Politics'
Appeal Sent to Ministry of Land and Busan City on 15th ... Solo Protest by Mayor on 19th
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Will the regions continue to suffer from the outflow of talent and companies? The ‘county governor’ is furious. He seems ready to rush out to the streets immediately.
Oh Gyu-seok, the governor of Busan’s Gijang County, sent an appeal to the government and Busan City urging the immediate promotion of the urgent ‘leading project.’ Following his ‘pleading strategy,’ he plans to start a one-person protest soon.
The urgent ‘leading project’ he refers to is the Busan City Urban Convergence Special Zone project.
Governor Oh stated that the optimal site where groundbreaking can begin immediately is the Gijang County ‘Southeast Industrial Complex,’ and on the 15th, he sent an appeal to the government and Busan City, with plans to proceed with a one-person protest shortly thereafter.
Regarding the recent designation of the special zone, Governor Oh asserted, “The metropolitan city urban convergence special zone is a leading project, and we must not overlook the prepared site where it can be implemented immediately.”
On the morning of the 15th, Governor Oh also sent appeals to the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and related departments, as well as to the Acting Mayor of Busan and related departments.
On the afternoon of March 19, he will hold a one-person protest in front of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport building to appeal for the necessity and justification of attracting the urban convergence special zone.
In his appeal, Governor Oh said, “Gijang County has the ‘Southeast Radiation Medical and Science Industrial Complex,’ covering 1,478,772㎡ (approximately 450,000 pyeong), scheduled for completion by the end of this year with an investment of 319.7 billion KRW from the county budget,” adding, “The Southeast Industrial Complex already has excellent living conditions formed by well-connected transportation infrastructure and the development of surrounding new towns.”
He added that in the January survey of the ‘Community Well-being Index (CWI),’ which evaluates the most livable areas among 229 local governments nationwide (226 basic local governments, Sejong City, Seogwipo City, and Jeju City), Gijang County proudly ranked first.
