Seoul Scholarship Foundation Establishes New Scholarship for Vocational School Students... 250 Million KRW Support for Education Support Blind Spots
Applications Available Through School Scholarship Officers from 15th to 26th... Results Announced in April
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Scholarship Foundation announced on the 15th that it will establish the 'Seoul Hope Vocational School Scholarship' for vocational school students who are in the blind spots of educational support, and together with the 'Seoul Dream Path Scholarship' supporting out-of-school youth, it will provide scholarships worth 250 million KRW to a total of 200 students, 100 in each category.
The Seoul Hope Vocational School Scholarship provides 1 million KRW per semester in tuition support to 100 vocational school students. Until now, vocational school students were not eligible for scholarship benefits because vocational schools are not considered regular universities under the Higher Education Act. With the revision of the Seoul city ordinance last year, the basis for support was established, allowing students to receive the Seoul Hope Vocational School Scholarship starting this year.
Applicants must be low-income vocational school students enrolled in Seoul-based universities, have paid actual tuition fees of 1 million KRW or more for the first semester of this year, and be registered for at least 12 credits to be eligible.
To apply, the school’s scholarship officer must submit the application form and related documents via email to the Seoul Scholarship Foundation from the 15th to the 26th, based on the school's recommendation. The selection results are scheduled to be announced in mid-April.
The Seoul Dream Path Scholarship provides academic encouragement funds to 100 out-of-school youth with strong academic motivation, offering 1.5 million KRW annually to selected scholars. Eligible applicants are low-income students (basic livelihood security recipients, legally designated lower-income groups, or those recommended by alternative school principals considering economic circumstances) enrolled in unlicensed alternative schools located in Seoul.
To apply, after receiving a recommendation from the alternative school principal, the school’s scholarship officer must submit the application form and related documents via email to the Seoul Scholarship Foundation from the 15th of this month to the 16th of next month. The selection results are scheduled to be announced in mid-May.
