Busan City (Acting Mayor Lee Byung-jin) announced on the 12th that from March 15 to 17, a mobile temporary screening clinic will operate targeting construction sites employing foreigners.
Construction sites where both domestic and foreign workers operate together have face-to-face labor-intensive characteristics, raising concerns about rapid spread if infections occur.
Busan City decided to conduct proactive testing at 19 large-scale public and private construction sites in the Busan area to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at construction sites employing many foreign workers.
The testing targets 1,028 domestic and foreign workers at construction sites, and the mobile temporary screening clinic will be installed and operated within the construction sites to reduce large-scale personnel movement and increase convenience for COVID-19 testing.
Acting Mayor Lee Byung-jin said, “Recently, cluster infections of COVID-19 have continued to occur at workplaces densely populated with foreign workers in other regions such as Gyeonggi and Chungnam,” adding, “We will ensure that there are no blind spots in quarantine measures at construction sites where foreign workers, who may be relatively vulnerable to cluster infections, are working.”
Busan City conducted an urgent inspection of quarantine status at 295 public construction sites from December 18 to 28 last year.
