Jung Sye-kyun: "20 Suspected Speculators from Ministry of Land and LH... Clear Crimes, No Forgiveness" (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] The government announced on the 11th that it identified a total of 20 suspected speculators as a result of the first joint government investigation conducted on Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) employees in relation to the LH scandal. In addition to the 13 suspected cases raised by civic groups, 7 more were confirmed through the government's own investigation.
Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun held a briefing at the Government Seoul Office in the afternoon and stated, "Land transactions were mainly concentrated in the Gwangmyeong and Siheung districts, and suspected speculation cases were also found in other 3rd New Town districts." He added, "This is a clear crime that trampled on the dreams of ordinary citizens who saved their entire salaries to buy a house," and said, "The government will never forgive the crimes of public corporations and public officials who exploited the dreams and hopes of the people to fill their own pockets."
This investigation was conducted by obtaining consent forms for information provision from a total of 14,000 MOLIT and LH executives and employees, and cross-checking transaction details and ownership information through the real estate transaction system and the national land information system. Suspected speculators identified in this investigation will be immediately referred for investigation.
