Seochunsoo, Hamyang County Governor, Joins the 'Fire Safety 119 Relay Challenge'
"Small Attention and Negligence Cause Great Disasters"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Seo Chunsu, the mayor of Hamyang County, participated in the ‘119 Relay Challenge’ on the 11th to promote fire prevention through the installation of firefighting facilities such as fire extinguishers and fire alarms, and to raise awareness about fire safety, praying for the safety of the county residents.
The 119 Relay Challenge, which Seo participated in this time, is a relay campaign that started from the Incheon Fire Headquarters and the Mayor of Incheon on the occasion of the 58th Firefighting Day (November 9, 2020) last year to raise awareness about the mandatory installation of residential firefighting facilities and the necessity of fire extinguishers and detectors.
Through the campaign, Seo Chunsu, mayor of Hamyang County, held a placard with the message “Small fires require preparation first, large fires require evacuation first,” along with ▲1 (one per house or vehicle) ▲1 (one fire extinguisher or detector) ▲9 (let’s equip them), urging everyone to participate in fire prevention.
Hamyang County recently amended the ‘Ordinance on Support for Installation of Residential Firefighting Facilities in Hamyang County’ to expand support from vulnerable groups to all county residents in order to prevent fires. Since fires can occur anytime and anywhere, the county is continuously raising awareness among all residents and leading efforts to expand and promote residential fire prevention.
This relay participation was received on the 4th from Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang County, and the next 119 Relay Challenge participants were nominated as Yoon Sang-gi, mayor of Hadong County, Han Jeong-woo, mayor of Changnyeong County, and Gu Bon-geun, chief of Hamyang Fire Station, to raise awareness among county residents and encourage nationwide participation and response.

Mayor Seo stated, “As the time spent at home has increased due to COVID-19, the risk of fires caused by careless handling of wood boilers and electrical leakage is rising. I hope that the nationwide fire prevention campaign spreads and that efforts are made to install firefighting facilities to protect the lives and property of families.”
