Musk Proves Influence on US Capital Markets
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] A survey revealed that 37% of Americans have invested based on tweets from Elon Musk, CEO of the electric vehicle company Tesla.
This year, the influence Musk has on the capital market has been proven as cryptocurrency prices surged and certain stock prices fluctuated sharply following a single tweet from Musk.
On the 10th (local time), according to a report by the U.S. financial media Market Insider citing the polling firm PeopleSay, an online survey conducted from the 6th to the 8th of last month with 30,400 respondents showed that 37% of respondents had invested based on Musk's tweets.
Twenty-one percent of respondents said they invested once or twice after seeing Musk's tweets. Sixteen percent said they invested multiple times based on his tweets.
Regarding the situation where stock prices move because of Musk's posts on Twitter, 48% described it as "very interesting," while 29% responded that it was "not interesting at all."
At the end of January, Musk sided with individual investors during the GameStop incident, where retail investors clashed with short-selling institutional investors, fueling a surge in stock prices.
He also repeatedly tweeted in support of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Dogecoin, increasing market volatility.
Regarding Musk, who moves the capital market in this way, 33% of respondents said they liked him, while 6% said they disliked him.
Forty-three percent said they had no particular feelings either way about Musk.
Among those who said they knew Musk, most evaluated him positively.
Forty-eight percent responded that he is a genius, followed by answers such as "interesting" (22%) and "a person crazy in a good way" (12%).
Those who viewed Musk negatively described him as a "fool" (7%), "a person crazy in a bad way" (6%), and an "unpleasant eccentric" (5%).

People who respect Musk cited his passion and dedication (45%) and honest expression of opinions (22%) as reasons, while those who strongly dislike him pointed out his arrogance (35%) and capricious behavior (24%).
