Jeonnam National Seed Management Office Conducts Intensive Distribution Investigation to Eradicate Illegal and Inferior Seed Distribution
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Branch of the National Seed Management Office (Branch Manager Kim Jongwon) announced on the 10th that it will conduct a focused distribution investigation on vegetable seeds, fruit tree seedlings, and more to prevent damage to farmers caused by the distribution of defective seeds.
The investigation will be conducted from the 15th of this month until June 30. The targets are seed and seedling companies and sellers located in 27 cities, counties, and districts in Gwangju Metropolitan City and Jeonnam Province that sell vegetable seeds, fruit tree seedlings, nutritional bodies, mushroom spawn, and more.
The distribution status and routes will be tracked to investigate whether illegal seeds and seedlings are being distributed.
The key enforcement points during the distribution investigation include registration of seed and seedling businesses, reporting of production and sales of varieties, compliance with quality labeling and labeling requirements, and those producers and sellers found violating these will be dealt with according to the Seed Industry Act.
According to the Seed Industry Act, those who operate seed or seedling businesses without registration, or sell varieties without reporting production, import, or sales, will face imprisonment of up to one year or fines of up to 10 million KRW. Those who produce seeds or seedlings and sell them without quality labeling will be fined up to 10 million KRW.
In addition, distribution investigations on seeds and seedlings traded through e-commerce and imported seeds will also be strengthened and promoted.
