Naju-si to Advance Payment of 'Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance' Starting from the 10th
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 10th that it will make an early lump-sum payment of the public interest allowance for 13,297 local farmers and fishermen.
The "Public Interest Allowance for Farmers and Fishermen" is a system first introduced nationwide last year by Jeollanam-do to promote sustainable development of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. Its core purpose is to address current issues faced by rural areas such as population decline and aging, and to promote the public and multifunctional roles of farming and fishing villages.
The city originally planned to pay the allowance in two installments of 300,000 KRW each in the first and second halves of the year, but decided to pay the full amount of 600,000 KRW at once to stabilize the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen suffering economic difficulties due to COVID-19 and to revitalize the local economy.
Eligible recipients can visit the local Nonghyup branch in their registered address area with a valid ID by the 9th of next month to immediately receive 600,000 KRW worth of Naju Love Gift Certificates.
Objections from those excluded from the allowance will be reviewed and finalized by the Public Interest Allowance Deliberation Committee after on-site verification by city and each eup/myeon/dong officials, and payments will be made within this month.
Farmers and fishermen who missed the application period in January will be able to apply during an additional period arranged in cooperation with Jeollanam-do, ensuring no disadvantages occur.
Recently, the city distributed 100,000 KRW worth of Naju Love Gift Certificates to all citizens as part of its own emergency disaster relief fund totaling 11.6 billion KRW, resulting in about 20 billion KRW worth of local currency circulating in the local market, which is expected to ease the difficulties of small business owners and self-employed people suffering from worsening business conditions.
