"Strengthening Korea-Japan Business Cooperation"... Chairman Huh Chang-soo Sends Condolence Letter on 10th Anniversary of Great East Japan Earthquake
[Asia Economy Reporter Su-yeon Woo] On the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake on the 11th, Huh Chang-soo, Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI), sent a letter of condolence to the Chairman of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and proposed, "Let us actively cooperate to promote future-oriented projects for the mutual benefit of the business communities of both countries."
Chairman Huh expressed sympathy for the efforts of the Japanese business community, government, and people, including Keidanren, to overcome the economic crisis caused by the unprecedented natural disaster, recalling, "The donations and manpower support from the Korean business community, including the neighboring FKI, at the time of the earthquake were a good example of how Korea and Japan helped each other in times of difficulty."
He went on to wish that this year would be one in which both countries overcome COVID-19 and achieve economic growth together, emphasizing active cooperation between the representative economic organizations of Korea and Japan, the FKI and Keidanren.

View original imageHe said, "With Keidanren, a long-time friend of the FKI, let us actively promote future-oriented projects for the mutual benefit of the business communities of both countries, such as holding the Korea-Japan Business Council meeting, which was temporarily postponed due to COVID-19, easing entry restrictions for businesspeople from both countries, and cooperation in the ESG field, which is emerging as a global management issue."
He also revealed the new aspirations and determination of the FKI, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Chairman Huh added, "As I begin a new term, I will do my best to strengthen solidarity with global economic organizations such as Keidanren, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Asian economic organizations, to swiftly overcome COVID-19, and to promote global economic cooperation including the expansion of the CPTPP, a new global trade and economic order launched under Japan's leadership in 2018."
