Volvo Achieves Most Models with 'Top Safety Pick' in Single Brand at US IIHS Crash Tests
A Total of 9 Models Including XC90 and XC60 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Volvo Cars announced on the 10th that a total of 9 models, the highest number for a single brand, were selected for the top rating of 'Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+)' in the crash test evaluation by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States.
IIHS is a nonprofit research and educational organization established in 1959 with the goal of reducing deaths, injuries, and property damage caused by automobile crashes. It announces safety ratings after conducting multiple tests on new vehicles released in the North American region at a state-of-the-art vehicle research center.
According to Volvo Cars, the models selected for TSP+ in this year's announcement include a total of 9 models such as the XC90 and XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). The company explained that this is the result of proving the excellence of advanced standard safety systems combined with forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking systems, pedestrian and bicycle collision avoidance technologies, among others.
Anders Gustafsson, CEO of Volvo USA, said, "Safety has been at the core of our business since the brand was founded in 1927," and added, "We are grateful to be recognized for this by reputable institutions."
