Asiana Airlines, Partial Leakage of Personal Information of Premium Customers
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Some customer information of Asiana Airlines has been leaked externally.
On the 8th, Asiana Airlines announced on its website, "A data breach incident occurred at SITA, one of the companies providing airline passenger service systems," and "There is evidence that Star Alliance elite member information has been leaked."
The leaked information includes the English names, membership numbers, and membership tiers of elite members from 26 Star Alliance member airlines. However, payment-related information, including card details, was not included.
Asiana Airlines explained, "Although we do not use SITA's passenger service system, it is understood that information of our members was also leaked from airlines using the SITA system during the process of sharing information to verify elite members among Star Alliance airlines."
Asiana Airlines added that SITA promptly completed measures regarding the data breach incident, and no additional breaches have been confirmed.

Previously, SITA's US data center was subjected to a cyberattack, resulting in partial customer information leaks from major overseas airlines using the SITA system, as well as domestic airlines such as Jeju Air and Air Seoul. These companies are currently notifying affected customers and working with SITA to respond to the incident.
