According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the two-hour interview with Prince Harry and his wife is expected to include "bombshell statements" ranging from their early marriage process to their departure from the royal family.
In a preview video of the interview released by CBS on the 5th (local time), Markle expressed her feelings about leaving the royal family, saying, "I finally have a voice. It really feels liberating."
Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle have had conflicts with the British royal family ahead of the interview, with expectations that Markle will reveal experiences of racial discrimination and harassment after joining the royal family. British media recently reported allegations that Markle herself harassed royal staff.
CBS plans to air this highly anticipated interview for over two hours starting at 8 p.m. local time on the 7th. This time slot is also when TV advertising commands the highest prices. CBS set the advertising rate during the airing of Prince Harry and Markle’s interview at $325,000 per 30 seconds, double the usual rate.
CBS intends to sell the interview to various channels and has agreed to rebroadcast it on the UK’s ITV on the 8th.
However, a spokesperson for Prince Harry and Markle stated, "(The couple) are not receiving compensation for the interview."
Winfrey’s company, Harpo Productions, established in Hollywood, California, signed the interview contract with CBS. Amid fierce competition among broadcasters to secure the interview, CBS, which has a close relationship with Winfrey, was ultimately selected.
Meanwhile, after declaring independence from the British royal family in January last year, the couple moved from Canada to the United States and currently reside in Montecito, California. They recently announced that they are expecting their second child.
