Suncheon City Launches 'Ureonggaksi' Project to Improve Housing Conditions for Vulnerable Groups
COVID-19 Infection Prevention and Customized Household Service Support for Vulnerable Groups
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 5th that it has launched the tailored service activity called the Ureonggaksi Project from the 2nd to prevent COVID-19 infection and improve hygiene environments for vulnerable groups within the city.
The 'Ureonggaksi' Project is a program where honorary social welfare officers from towns and townships identify low-income households with poor living conditions, such as those with alcohol-related illnesses, elderly living alone, single-parent families, and households with mental illnesses, and provide visiting housekeeping services.
In addition to supporting socially vulnerable groups in welfare blind spots, the project also provides community-based welfare services including welfare checks, hygiene guidance, and emotional support activities such as companionship.
The city formed teams of two people and selected 47 vulnerable households to carry out a thorough cleaning project starting from the 2nd.
A severely disabled household that received this support said, "There was no communication or conversation between neighbors at all, but through this help, we were able to share neighborly affection and develop interest in each other." They added, "We are grateful to the neighbors who showed warm concern."
