The United Nations Statistical Commission is a high-level annual statistical meeting where heads of statistics from various countries and international organizations gather to decide on statistical standards and international comparison methodologies necessary for promoting policies on global issues such as economy and health.
The meeting, held on the 1st to 3rd and the 5th, is attended by delegations from over 140 countries and more than 700 participants from international organizations such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Bank (WB). Attendees discuss the role of statistical authorities in the new data ecosystem, sustainable development indicators pursued as common goals by the international community, and innovative data collection methods.
Commissioner Ryu introduced the 'K-Statistics System' promoted by Statistics Korea as a member country representing the Asia-Pacific region. The most notable feature of the K-Statistics System is that it enables active linkage and integration between data while ensuring information protection. He expressed hope that this system could serve as a model case for harmonizing data utilization activation and information protection.
Additionally, Statistics Korea plans to jointly participate with the United Kingdom and the Netherlands in the 'Big Data Service Project' led by the United Nations, and Commissioner Ryu promised to do his best in human resource support and other areas for the innovative use of global data.
