Prosecutors Investigate Lawyer Park Jun-young Regarding Kim Hak-eui Past Affairs Committee Lawsuit Case
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The prosecution investigated lawyer Park Jun-young, who was active in the 'Kim Hak-ui case' investigation team under the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Fact-Finding Investigation Group of the Ministry of Justice's Prosecution Past Affairs Committee, as a witness.
According to the legal community on the 2nd, the Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Byun Pil-geon) summoned lawyer Park as a witness the day before to confirm the investigation process of the fact-finding investigation group.
This investigation was conducted to look into the case in which former Daegu High Prosecutor General Yoon Gap-geun and People Power Party lawmaker Kwak Sang-do filed a defamation lawsuit against officials of the Ministry of Justice's Prosecution Past Affairs Committee and the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Fact-Finding Investigation Group.
Earlier, in May 2019, the Prosecution Past Affairs Committee announced the final review results of the sexual bribery and bribery allegations against former Vice Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui, stating that testimonies and circumstances confirmed that former Prosecutor General Yoon met with construction businessman Yoon Joong-chun, who was a bribe giver, to play golf or have meals. They also recommended a reinvestigation to the prosecution, citing suspicions that lawmaker Kwak, who was then the Blue House Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs, intervened and exerted external pressure during the 2013 police investigation of former Vice Minister Kim.
However, both individuals were cleared of charges by the prosecution's investigation and later filed defamation lawsuits against the Past Affairs Committee and the Fact-Finding Investigation Group officials.
