Samsung C&T's construction division announced on the 2nd that it has independently won the contract for the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal commissioned by Qatar Petroleum, the state-owned oil company of Qatar.
This project involves building storage tanks for LNG export, consisting of three LNG storage tanks with a capacity of 187,000㎥ each, three port berthing facilities, and transportation pipelines.
The contract amount is 1.67 billion USD (approximately 1.85 trillion KRW), and Samsung C&T will independently carry out EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction). The total construction period is 57 months, with completion scheduled for November 2025.
The success in securing this contract is believed to be influenced by Samsung's diverse global LNG projects, port construction experience, and execution of combined power plants in Qatar. Samsung C&T has successfully completed LNG terminal projects in Singapore and Malaysia and is currently undertaking Vietnam's first LNG terminal project.
In particular, Samsung C&T executed the world's largest LNG terminal Phase 3 project in Singapore with a capacity of 260,000㎥, and domestically, it has experience constructing 18 out of 75 LNG tanks, about one-quarter of the total.
Qatar, the world's largest LNG producer, is expanding production at the North Field gas field and developing export facilities in response to the global increase in LNG demand.
