Jeju Confirms First COVID-19 Variant Virus Infection
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] It was confirmed belatedly that the first COVID-19 variant virus case has occurred in Jeju as well.
Jeju Province announced on the 1st that it received notification from the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 27th of last month that Jeju case number 525 was infected with the UK-origin variant virus.
The provincial quarantine authorities stated that the confirmed case was diagnosed positive after being tested at the airport screening clinic upon returning to Jeju from Hungary on the 2nd of last month, and after isolation treatment in a negative pressure room in Jeju, the patient has been discharged.
All seven contacts identified during the epidemiological investigation of case number 525 tested negative. Case number 525 left Jeju on the 21st of last month.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters reported that as the number of variant virus infections among overseas entrants has recently increased, it confirmed that Jeju case number 525 was infected with the variant virus during a full investigation of entrants.

Meanwhile, on the 1st, a total of four COVID-19 confirmed cases occurred in Jeju. Accordingly, the total number of confirmed cases in Jeju this year has reached 152. The cumulative confirmed cases increased to 573. Three of the new confirmed cases were transferred to negative pressure beds at Seogwipo Medical Center on the same day for isolation and inpatient treatment.
