On the 26th, Governor Kim welcomed the passage of the special law for the construction of Gadeokdo New Airport by saying, "It marks the end of the long-standing conflict over site selection and takes the first step forward."
Governor Kim stated, "Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam united their voices and efforts, and this was the result of cooperation among the local economic community, many city and provincial residents, and members of the National Assembly," adding, "I am grateful to the citizens of Gyeongnam Province and the people of Busan and Ulsan who joined forces."
He continued, "The long-standing conflict over site selection has come to an end, and Gadeokdo New Airport has taken its first step," emphasizing, "The issues raised regarding Gadeokdo New Airport were already verified and addressed through intense discussions with experts during the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee’s bill review process."
Governor Kim said, "The newly constructed Gadeokdo New Airport will be an economic new airport leading the era of smart integrated logistics where ports, airports, and railroads are interconnected," and stressed, "We will focus on fostering the airport and port hinterland cities linked with the existing Busan New Port and the newly established Jinhae New Port."
He added, "Through the economic special zones of the hinterland cities, high value-added logistics processing industries will become the future growth engine of the Southeast region megacity," and expressed his determination, saying, "We will steadily expand the metropolitan transportation network including roads, railroads, and maritime transport centered on the airport and ports so that Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam can be reborn as a Northeast Asia smart integrated logistics platform."
