TikTok Agrees to Pay 103.5 Billion KRW in US Class Action Lawsuit Over Unauthorized Biometric Data Collection
ByteDance, the parent company of the Chinese video-sharing platform TikTok, which faced a class-action lawsuit in the United States for unauthorized collection of personal biometric information, is reported to have agreed to pay approximately 100 billion KRW for a settlement.
According to major foreign media on the 26th, ByteDance agreed to pay $92 million (about 103.5 billion KRW) after more than a year of legal battles in a lawsuit filed by some TikTok users in Illinois, USA.
The plaintiffs claimed, "The TikTok app infiltrates users' phones and extracts extensive personal information, including biometric data," and "ByteDance uses this for targeted advertising or commercial purposes."
ByteDance stated, "While we do not agree with the plaintiffs' claims, we want to focus on creating a safe and enjoyable experience within the TikTok community rather than prolonging the lawsuit."
